Nothing like an excursion through the six districts of the ‘Serenissima’ Venice for a stay between wonder and discovery. You won’t be dissatisfied with the beauty of the capital of the Veneto region, whether you prefer to visit it through the canals or get lost on foot in the labyrinth of its alleys. Depending on the period during which you are going to visit Venice, you will need to take appropriate clothing: this article is here to help you choose the packing list for Venice!

The ideal time to get there is mid-seasons: spring and fall.

Packing list: Should you take a backpack or a suitcase to go to Venice?

Everything will depend on how you have organized your stay and the season. In fact, in the winter there is a great risk of flooding in Venice, so it will be more practical for you to have a backpack. A rolling suitcase would take water and you would have to carry it at arm’s length if the city is flooded with water.

It also depends on your travels, if you have to change hotels or hostels regularly, it will be more practical to bring a backpack. On the other hand, if you don’t have a lot of distance to walk, a suitcase will do very well, especially if you planned to bring back large and fragile gifts and souvenirs.

Packing list: What clothes to take to Venice? (For women)

Whether you come for a romantic or historical stay, you will inevitably have to stroll around the city all day. Warm clothes are required in winter: sweaters, coats, even hats, and gloves to fight against humidity.

Do not forget to take pants that protect your legs well in case of flooding in Venice, an event well known in Venice: the Acqua Alta.

In the off-season, you can make do with a scarf and a jacket. The summers being very hot, but also humid, plan to wear light clothing, tank tops, shorts, skirts, or loose dresses.

To stay elegant in the evening, do not forget to bring dresses, tunics, or skirts (with tights in winter).

Comfortable clothes adapted to the season are to be preferred especially during the day if you have planned to stroll through the different districts of the “city of water”. If the rain or even the snow awaits you, planned to wear pants and the waterproof jackets without forgetting the gloves, the hat, and the big scarf.

For the summer season, choose very light materials such as linen or cotton and lose clothing such as tank tops, large t-shirts, Bermuda shorts, or shorts. The Venetians have the art of combining comfort and elegance, so select you’re most chic clothes for your night out in the “Queen of Adriatic”.

Packing list: What shoes to visit Venice?

In the months of September and April, you may face with the Acqua Alta (the process of rising waters). The tide can only last between one and two hours and it can arrive unexpectedly in the middle of the day between 10 am and 2 pm. It is therefore essential to provide Rubber boots to be able to move around the city without taking water!

Apart from this is not an insignificant detail, when visiting the city; opt for comfortable, flat, and non-slip shoes in case of rain such as sports shoes, hiking shoes, shoes with reinforced soles, or sneakers for the summer.

You will have the opportunity to wear your pumps and moccasins for a chic evening.

Packing list: What accessories to bring to Venice?

If you visit in winter, remember to bring some important accessories in case of winter weather: an umbrella, a k-way, a hood, gloves or a hat for example.

In summer, to fight against the heat, it can be useful to bring your fogger or fan. If you fear the sun, bring an umbrella, a hat or a cap, sunscreen of course, and sunglasses.

You might know that there is no beach in Venice itself. But if a little excursion to Lido Island is planned, don’t forget your swimsuit to enjoy its beach.

Of course, we don’t speak of the “city of masks” without evoking its famous carnival around the world: for this occasion, don’t forget to bring your costume which can be a traditional Venetian garment, or quite simply a mask to respect the tradition which dates from the 12th century.

How not to dress in Venice?
In Venice, there are some rules of behavior to take into account to fully integrate you into the habits and customs of Venetians. It is not very well seen to walk naked, shirtless, or in a bathing suit in the city, especially since there is no beach in Venice itself.

If you have planned to visit churches or other religious buildings, pay attention to your dress. Plan a shawl to be covered from shoulders to thighs. Certainly, comfort does not prohibit elegance, the Venetians being quit dressed, whether they go out in the afternoon or in the evening.
