The National Park Service grants a maximum of 14 days to travel the 93 miles, and in that time you will not only see a healthy collection of great views from Mount Rainier but, also get a full dose of the surroundings. Waterfall, including luscious meadows, sparkling alpine lakes, and tumultuous river crossings.

Kalalau Trail

Along the superb Napali Coast of the island of Kauai for 18 km (driveway only), the Kalalau Trail, built in the 1800s and redone around 1930, allows you to cross five magnificent valleys where exceptional flora and fauna meet. The Napali Coast is part of a protected provincial park. The trailhead is at the end of Route 560, north of the island.  The beauty of the place helps motivation a lot. Indeed, crossing the five valleys allows you to see the ocean as far as the eye can see, breathtaking waterfalls and rivers, green mountainsides, goats, and vegetation in all its splendor.

Kalalau Trail

The total elevation gain of 18 km is around 1500 meters. Considering the weather, the trail that isn’t always obvious, and the weight of your backpack full of camping gear, this is a good challenge. The trail can look scary in places, including the famous Crawler’s Ledge, between miles 7 and 8, where a gust of wind from the open sea is enough to make you lose your feet and fall into the ocean. There are around six water supply points, however, don’t be afraid to take more to avoid running out of water.
